FLOWER COMPETITION.

Last night the members of the Blue Triangle Community Club held a flower competition. There was a .splendid number of entries for all classes., and the judge, Mrs Witclxell, had great difficulty in awarding the places. Following are the results: Decorated bow]. Miss -Juan Percival 1. Miss Beatrice Keall 2. Vases, Miss .Janet Smith ]. Miss Muisie Dole 2. Buttonholes, Miss Z. Cole 1, Miss Leah Cole 2. The judge spoke very highly of the- artistic ability displayed, and hoped the gills would compete at the Horticultural Society show.

While waiting the arrival of Mrs Porter, community singing v. as much enjoyed, also recitations by Mrs kargisson and Miss Joan J’erci'ai.

Mrs Porter thanked the members of the club for the large ottering of beautiful flowers sent to Wellington for Violet Day. which helped considembly to augment the amount realised for the upkeep of the residential nursery. :?he briefly outlined the work, explaining it was for caring for children while their mothers were sick, in maternity or other hospitals. scrv is under Government inspection, with two trained nurses at the head, the rest of the stall' being probationer nurses who take their share of the work in each branch in turn. They also have half a day a week olf, and one whole day a month. It was hoped that this training would help them to be of more use in their future careers, either as mothers or helps to mothers. Every child was paid fur iu the nursery, the amount being based upon the father’s income. The maximum ?um of 15s a week, so that it could never be self-supporting, aud during this time of retrenchment in so many directions, the promoters had to work hard to carry on the work and not sacrifice efficiency to economy. The public had been very good in supplying both money and good-, and the pai rents on many occasions had given practical proofs of their appreciation. The doctors and nurses were most sympathetic 'and readiiy gave all support j and advice. Babies, it was stated, had I been received from Otaki and district.
