OTAKI BOROUGH COUNCIL

SEWERAGE LOAN. A special meeting of the Council was held last nigbt, when all Councilors were present. The Engineer reported on his visit fco Blenheim. Tenders re supply of pipes and fittings were opened and referred to a special committee, the wholo Council to meet on Thursday next to decide. The Engineer was instructed to tabulate all items. The matter of Mr Clark's sub-divi-sion of land was referred to the Works' Committee.

The progress payment of £3OO was authorised to Mr Grayling (contractor of the water-works). A resolution was read from the Public Trust Office re loan f»r water-works. That office agreed to loan £SOOO at 0 per cent, for a form of 20 years. Cr. Kilsby opposed the long term, but

ujrrced if tho time, could be reduced, say ten years. Cr. Taylor expressed similar views. The Mayor, Crs. Cocktail, Broadway, Bills, and Carkeek considered that the work should be proceeded with at once. If the Borough had to wait until 1925 before the State Advances could lend the money it would be a drawback to the town. It was deeided to try and get a shorter term of loan. The Council finally agreed that steps be taken at once to obtain money to carry out the sewage system of the Borough.
