DISPUTE OVER RIGHT-OF-WAY.
To the Editor. I Sir,— I sec by a report in the “Otaki j Mail” the proceedings of a meeting of i the Horowhenua County Council iu connection with a private dispute overa right-of-way to some land situated over the railway from 'he main north road. I would like to ask you, Mr Editor, through thw medium oi your vaiu- ! able paper, v.ho is paying for tHi - waste j of time of our councillors and the »o----j licitor who was present to give advice, j I think as a ratepayer, if the council- ; lor- did their duty and looked more j into the ratepayers’ interests it would be more to their credit instead of poki ing their noses into private affairs At i the present time it is a disgrace to any | body of councillors the way they look j after the Waikawa bridge. This bridge on the main road, according to two ends ' of a benzine ca-e with a notice tucked on, is not safe for traffic and persons cross at their own risk. Rot! I would ; like to ask our Councillor; if they ever ; think of their ratepayers who have to j pass over this bridge to earn their liv- | ing and the rates they are expected to I pay. Repairs or a new bridge i- re- ! qurreti, and if not done very soon there j will be an accident, and perhaps end j in loss of life. Ido hope that the jury j at tin.- inquest will pa-s a verdict of ! “Wilful Murder.” The Council can j have no excuse in not having had time j to repair it as this bridge has been in > the same -tat-:- for nearly two yeurs. I j think it is about time rise ratepayers woke up and called an indignation meeting and demanded from the Horo- 1 whenua County Council that something j should be done at once to make the j traffic on the main North Island thor- 1 oughfare safe to the public, and not j waste our money in matter.-; that don’t j interest them.—l am, etc., ! RATEPAYER.
