METHODIST NOTES.
The Otaki Circuit- quarterly meeting was held in the Methodist Church, P&raparattmu. on Saturday, July Ist, there being the usual gathering of representatives from the Churches in the Cis< euit. Rev. Ivcall, superintendent glia’ istcr* presided.
Some discussion took place on tlig minutes of the previous meeting, after which the quarter’s balance-sheet was read and discussed. Gratification was expressed that the financial positioS had improved, this being due to harvest festival contributions liu\ing been ra* ceiled from Munakau and PaoktikariH, the latter church being especially congratulated on the fine result of its of* f«rt.
Considerable attention was given t« an appeal from the President of Conference, asking that great efforts be made during this year to increase and deepen the spiritual side of the church life. It was decided to endeavour to revive the interest of the children iu the Young Worshippers League, and with this end in view the l\ev. Keail will confer with the secretaries of the League in the churches where same are established, and endeavour to start other leagues as opportunity occurs. It wa> decided to make a special effort this quarter to pay off an outstanding liability in connection with tin? parsonage at Pavaparaunni. thr delegates from Paraparaumu who have already raised over £4OO. stating they will raise a further £25 if the rest of the Circuit undertakes the balance of £IOO.
After the business of the meeting was concluded, the members of the l’araparaiuuu Ladies’ Guild entertained the delegates at ten, a very bountiful cold collation being provided and enjoyed by all. Mr W. Taylor, of Otaki, thanked the ladies on behalf oi th* delegates.
On Friday lost the Kcv. Ashcroit, oi Palmerston North, secretary to the general conference, waited on the Governor. Lord Jcllicoe, to present to hlii the loyal address to ihe King from the Centenary Conference held in Auckland in February. Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P., introduced Hi v. Ashcroft to the Governor. Bov eral other members of Parliament were also present. The deputation was very gratified at the reception accorded them, and His Excellency promised to forward the address to Hi* Majesty.
