A MUSICAL TREAT.

SACRED CONCERT. Some thirty members of the Wellington Waterside Band rendered a musical programme at tho Otaki theatre yesterday afternoon, when there was a large and very appreciative audience. The programme submitted was an exI cellent one, and while the bandsmen ro- ■ eeived prolonged applause Miss Eileen Driscoll and Air Herbert F. Wood scori ed repeated encores f»r their Sue singing. Miss Driscoll was heard to groat advantage in '‘Lore’s Merchant” and “Mere,” while in her duet with Mr Wood she was particularly good. The voices Mended splendidly and encores j were demanded. Air Woad’s best number was “Carnival,” which he sang in great style. The overture, “Lustspiel” by the Band was pleasingly given, but the test piece “William Tell” was the star item. All parts were splendidly maintained, and loud applause greeted the bandsmen. Other line items were “The Allied Patrol.” ITmvhincllo,” “.1!H1” (overture), and 1 “0.H.M.5.” (march). The trombone

solo by Bandman 11. D. Croft was also a line item and he was obliged to respond to an encore. This bandman is the champion trombone soloist otf New Nourti Wales, and it is no wonder that he received such a reception. Credit is largelv due to Conductor Drew for providing such an excellent programme. Airs Leslie McDonald ably played ihe accompaniments.

During the afternoon it was stated that the R.S.A. were £2O deiicit over its concert in Levin, and an appeal was made for Otaki to help them out of their ditlicully.

As the result of the collection the sum of nearly £2O was raised.
