A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT

A con'-ert of a high order, and organised by Messrs Ami re w and Huntur. was held on Saturday night to raise funds for the R.S.A. After a fine picture programme the musical portion ol the entertainment was opened by a nicely-played pianoforte solo by Miss George. Then came an invisible chorus, followed by the following: Song. “The Stoker, ’’ Mr Howard Andrew: musical monologue. Miss Ivy Middlemiss (encored); song. “My Old Shako,” Mr W. N. Anderson (encored); song. “My Old Kentucky Homo” with Mr James, human banjo accompaniment (encored); song, “Take a Pair ol Sparkling Eyes,” Mr Hunter (encored); recitation. “The House That Jack Built.” Miss Nancy Andrew (encored): song, “Mother Muckrce.” Mr Mottisheud (encored); humorous recitation. Mim. Dorothea Watson (encored); po: (lance. Kuku Maori girls (encored). The local “.Tews”—Messrs Hunter. Andrew. Anderson, and Mottisliead then sang “Abe” to everyone’s delight. after which Mr Los. Atkins, stage manager, extended his thanks to the performers. The latter were afterwards entertained at supper. During the evening two competitions were held, one being for a cake donated by Mesdnines Stewart and Smith, and the other for a cushion given bytMiss Margaret Clifford. The first was won by Miss Carroll, and the second by Miss Ruby Bevan. “God Save Hie King” was lustilv rendered by the large crowd

present. Mrs Smith and Miss Cotter played for the pictures while Mrs Andrew played accompaniments.
