OTAKI’S MEMORIAL SITE.
SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. The shop day, promoted by Mrs C. H. Williams, and held on Friday to raise funds for the improvement of Otaki’s memorial site, proved highly successful, and Mrs Williams is to be heartily congratulated on carrying the sale to such a successful issue. The window of Mr Williams’ shop had been completely transformed, and instead of hardware there were dainties of all descriptions, richly-iced and beautifully-decorated cakes, pastry, etc., being effectively set out in the midst of colored papers, cur- i tains, etc., which helped to make the effect a specially attractive one. There : were also hams, sucking pigs, vegetables sweets, etc., and from the time of ... g till closing time Mrs Williams and her staff had a very busy day. Be foie closing at night there was a sum of over £3O in hand —probably a record for a shop day in Otaki. Mrs Williams, besides being most promin- ! (■lit. at the shop, had worked both early i and late in making preparations, and besides the large amount of time and trouble, lms donated most liberally, and is to be warmly commended for her generosity. Her main assistant was Kirs Burnett, while others who gave willing help were Mrs Reynolds, Mrs Nicolson, Miss Ethel Bills, Miss Goldie Rikihana, Messrs Williams (2), W. H. Reynolds, and C. Batten. As the numerous orders could not be completed on Friday the shop was opened for a brief time on Saturday when Mrs Williams had another busy time, la all about £-10 has been realised. During the day Mrs Bax and Mrs Horace Noble supplied the stall-holders with afternoon tea, acts fully appreciated.
