OTAKI AMD OLD BOYS—A DKAW. Tlie above match was played on Saturday, and on account of rivalry considerable interest was evinced. Both teams were well represented, and from the kick off till call of time play was of an interesting nature. Old Boys, aided by the wind, had the best of the iirst half, bat fine play prevented them from crossing the line, although they made several strenuous attempts. In the second half Otaki, with the wind behind them, had the best of the game, although Mclntyre and D’Ath both made dashing runs and narrowly missed scoring. Giddens also had a shot at goal, which weiit uncomfortably near for the Blues. The game elided with honors even, piny likewise. Tor Old Boys Mclntyre and D’Ath played splendidly, and were, the pick. Olliers proved able supports. fSubritzky was the pick of Otaki Is backs, and had the bulk of the work to do. forwards on both sides played well, but Hie Kobinsou brothers proved the popular pair. Mr Lea Udy was referee. HOT MAI (20) v. OLD BOYS (5). \ It was considered this mutch would lie hard-fought, and evenly contested. So it proved as far as the first spell was concerned, but the second lialf was robbed of interest by the poor display put up by the home boys. Soon after the start of the game Rhodes put in some line play, and as the outcome of his pass the ball just missed being grounded over Hui Mai’s line. The Old Boys continued on the attack for .some time but a reverse was caused by fine play bv Wilson. Bob George and Meta followed by good play and Old Boys were pressed. Puna, in attempting to clear the line, kicked hard, the ball struck Martin and rebounded, enabling him to score under the posts. Bevan easily converted. Play was soon t ranslerred j to Hui Mai territory, and O’Rourke getting possession of the ball made no mistake. Ho raced for tlie line in great style, the outcome of line play by Rhodes and Haydon, and scored. Although the angle was a difficult one Tidy kicked a splendid goal, amidst 'applause, 5—5. Thus the spell ended. Burly in the second half Hui Mai, favored by the wind, attacked and Tana scored. Meta missed the uprights. Shortly after Old Boys accepted a force. Mela thou became prominent, and nearly scored. The attack was maintained and Tana scored bis second try. 11—5. Gardener shortly alter scored, but the kick at goal was a failure, 1-I—s. Webby at this stage left the field being dissatisfied with a lulling, maintaining the ball bad been forced .by Hapi. Soon after Hiwi dashed over the line, but the try was unconverted, ll—s, then Martin scored under the posts, but the kick at goal was unsuccessful, 20—5. The game thus ended. Mr T. Pa rata was referee. PARAPAR.AUMU v. HUI MAI— A DRAW. The Paraparaumu-Hui Mai match. | played at Maiiakau, was a splendid game. In the first half the visitors led q—;t i but early in the second spell Hoi . Mai added two more tries, while eight I minutes before call of time the Paraparaumu team scored and equalised matters. Mr H. Karauti was referee. The game Was a friendly one and at the conclusion congratulatory speeches, fol- j lowed by cheers, were made. Tokomaru beat Levin juniors, while j Weraroa beat Old Boys (third grade) by 17—3. TB HORO (11) v. HUI MAI (0). The third grade match between the ; above ended as above. The visitor.combination was too good for the locals, and the home lads were kept well on the defence for the first half, during which there was no score. Early in the second spell Marino intercepted a puss, raped for the line and scored a splendid try. The kick at goal was futile. To Horo continued to attack and added eight more points.
