Mr Brandon, of Waipukurau, brother to Air J. P. Brandon (Mayor of Otaki; was among the visitors to Otaki yesterday. Sister Lewis was yesterday entertained at afternoon tea by Airs W. Best, when there was quite a pleasant gathering of ladies. A presentation of a valuable -uit ease was made to Sister Lewis on Friday by the staff and children of tbs Native College. Many complimentaryrefereesas were made and regret expressed at Sister Lewis’ projected depart ure. Ratepayers of the Hait County Council, and many others, will regret to learn that Cr. John Barclay tendered his resignation to the Hutt Council yesterday. due to trouble arising with -a few ratepayers in his riding. Since joining tire Council Cr. Barclay feat been a most us.ef ul member, and ’ as Chairman carried out his duties' in a highly satisfactory manner. An endeavour to get him to re-consider his resignation has so far failed.
