1 “ W Some of the jockeys riding in jumping events at Ellerslie wore ordered by the chief stipendiary’ steward, Mr J. McMahon, to lengthen their stirrupleathers (says the Auckland Herald), and it may- be guessed that there was good reason for the action taken. i Messrs W. T. Jewell, C. A. Pearson and the secretary (Mr Len Freeman) will represent the Foxten R.C. at the annual meeting of country clubs’ delegates to be held in Wellington next month. In a recent letter Hector Gray said that the cold in England was very trying, and that he rode in the snow in Lincoln. Recently he rode a winner which started at 20 to 1. English writers are having another go at Hector Gray for what they term his “weak finishes.” There was nothing “weak” with Gray and his finishing efforts while riding in New Zealand.
