BOWLING

THE OTAKI CLUB,

A special meeting of the Otaki Bowling Club was held in the Council Chambers on Monday night, Mr 11. Witehell presiding. The chief business was to consider the advisability or otherwise of purchasing a section of laud from Mrs Atcßeath so as to enlarge tho croquet Jawn. Mr Butlierley stated that he had waited oil Mrs Mcßeath, who said she was willing to sell, provided the licensee of the hotel had no objections. Mr Lee, said Mr Sathcrlcy, did not object. Mr Salherley pointed out. however, that tlic piece of land adjoining the croquet lawn contained cesspits, which would not be beneficial. He considered tbe land opposite the bowling green would be more suitable and stated this could lie secured. A fullsized croquet lawn could be made, while there would be room for a 12ft. right-of-way. Mr A. Smith favored the section adjoining the croquet lawn, but several differed on account of the cess-pits. Mr Bills did not consider the Club financially strong to stand the expense, and thought it advisable to carry on

as at present. Mr Bramlcy moved that the section opposite the bowling green be secured Mild that a committee be set up to negotiate for its purchase, and report. —-Seconded l>v Mr ft hi toman and carried.

Mr A. Smith moved an amendment Ilia! the other section be secured, but this found no seconder.

Messrs Witehell, Freeman, and Satkerlcy were appointed a committee to make the necessary enquiries.
