“POPPY DAY.”

FLOWERS TO BE SOLD IN OTAKI. At Wednesday night’s meeting of the Olaki Borough Council Captain Bax stated that he has received a communication from Mr P. H. Harper, secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association at Levin, with a request that poppies be sold in the streets of Otaki on Monday. Part of the proceeds, it was pointed out, would be sent to Franco while a portion would be used to assist unemployed ex-soldiers in New Zealand. Captain Bax said he felt sure that if he left the matter to the Council it would be given every consideration. but he wished to suggest, that ladies be asked to become interested. After consideration the matter was left to Captain Bax, who will wait on members of the Choral Society on Friday night.
