BOWLING

It has been suggested that a bowling match between members of the local Club and the Croquet Club be played, the men to be handicapped by playing left-handed.

A scheme is on foot in Palmerston to secure part of the covered area of the Showgrounds for the purpose of a winter bowling green and tennis court. A new bowling green is being constructed for the Nelson Club, and each afternoon after school hours a number of boys are engaged to tramp down the layers of soil which are being put on preparatory to sowing the grass seed. Experience (says the Mail) has shown that tramping is better than rolling, as the former method gets rid of the "pot holes.-'
