MOVIE NOTES.

Katherine McDonald who is very generally regarded as the most beautiful actress in America, was selected to represent the most beautiful woman in America tit the annual plioto exhibit of beautiful women of the world, which was held in Kansas City. Missouri. Miss McDonald is of Scotch descent and is a sister to Mary MeClarcn, and Miriam McDonald. “Queen of Sheba,’' which was recently released in England is regarded by English critics as the most ambitious film ever attempted by the Fox Corporation.

The Paramount Company who recently opened studios in London are reported as turning out some high class films which are expected to lie equal in the matter of photography to the best work , produced in America. Among the pict tures is one filmed in Spain. 1 From San Francisco comes the news that Roscoe Arbuckle is reported to be “broke.” Mr Schenck, husband of Norma Talmadge, advanced him practically all the expenses of the trials, about £6,000. Arbuckle now says he will direct (providing of course his trial ends well for him) in which line he had considerable experience in the old Keystone days.

Owing to the influx of German films into America, producers are agitating for a tax on imported films. Not only are the Americans now allowing these foreign films to be shown, but they are showing to packed houses. This is a little different to a few months ago, when a near-riot occurred in a small American town, because the manager of the local picture theatre showed a German film, after being’asked to withdraw it. Annette Kellc-rman and her husband, Jas. Sullivan, are going to make pictures in New Zealand. The location is not mentioned, but probably vhrLtchureh will figure largely as a background. Sessue Hayakawa has completed the translation into the Japanese of “Romeo and Juliet.” “Hamlet,” “King Lear,” “The Merchant of Venice,” and “The Taming of the Shrew,” and is now at work on two more of Shakespeare’s plays.
