OTAKI BOROUGH COUNCIL

WATER WORKS LOAN. Mr W. H. Field, M.l’., writes as follows: —“I duly received your letter of the 17th instant enclosing a copy of your communication with the .State Advances Office on this subject. Fearing that the time was going by, and that the Borough might: be unable to obtain a further instalment of loan next year unless the present £SOOO advance were completed before the 31st: instant, I made it my business to sec the superintendent of the State Advances Office about, a fortnight ago to ascertain the position. i was already aware that the Government had approved of the loan. The superintendent assured me that even if the present advance were not completed before the end of the current month that fact would not prevent the Borough obtaining a further advance during the year commencing on the Ist proximo. Notwithstanding this I asked the superintendent to proceed with the matter with as little dolav as possible, and this he promised to do. I will, of course, keep the matter well under my observation.’’’ The State Advances Office writes:— With reference to your letter of the Waterworks Loan £SOOO. I have to inform you that the precedent consent of the Governor-General in Council under section 20 of the Finance Act, 1919, has been obtained. The application will be submitted to the Board for consideration at its next meeting.
