RIFLE SHOOTING.

♦ WHARBROA CLUB'S TROPHY MATCH. The Whnreroa Rifle Club fired a match at ranges SCO and 900 yards on Saturday, March 11th, for tho McGill trophy. The weather conditions were none too favorable, a very tricky wind being in evidence. Rifleman M. Maclean, one of the Club's veteran shots, was the trophy winner, with Rifleman E. Weggery as runner up. Results are as follows: —

On Saturday next. March 25th, the Club fires its final shoot for the Belt presented by Mr L. Howell and Mr A. Robinson's trophy at ranges '.""< and 10U0 yards, when the Club would like all members to be present. FRESH FOOD'AND ICE CO.'S CUP. The annua] competition for the above Cup, between the Riile Club* of this coast, look plaoe on the Hautere Riile Club's range on Saturday last, tire competing clubs being Hautere ;holders), Whareroa, Ngatiawa, and Levin, Foxton uot being "represented. The Hautere Club succeeded in upholding their title to the Cup, by the small margin of three points from the Ngatiawas, who narrowly missed repeating their win of ihe Shield competition. This makes the sixth occasion on which the Hautere Club have .won tlie Cup, out of nine contests, • record they should be proud of. They also put. up the line average'of points per man at 500 yards, which really put them in a winning position, otherwise Ngatiawa would have won the double. The day was very blustering, with a changing light, which made .shooting very hard. The i scores of the two leading teams were j very good under the circumstances. The other two teams were quite unable to gauge the changing conditions, J he gold medal donated by the Executive lor the. highest aggregate in the two competitions was won by Itfhn. A. Thomson, oi the Hautere Club, with ! a .score of 18b points, Rfliu. Fred. Monk of the .Ngatiawa Club being runnerup with 184. Following are the deHATJTERE.
