CATHOLIC SOCIAL.

AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. The social organised by the Catholic Choir in aid of the new organ fund, and held last Friday evening, proved a complete success. About 200 couples took part in the dancing, whilst the gallery was also well filled. Unfortunately, tho Mayor, Mr Brandon, was prevented from attending through indisposition. During the evening Miss Patterson, who was in excellent voice, sang, “For the Green,” and had to respond to a unanimous encoro. Miss Elderton sang* very sweetly “Come Back to Erin,” for which she was recalled, and Miss Dwyer was accorded great applause for her singing of “Mother Maclirce.” A feature of the social was the dainty supper provided by the ladies’ committee, tho members of which consisted of Mesdamcs Harper, Walsh, Fisher, Dwyer, Gunter, Lima, Gordon, Bowden, Field, and the Misses McLeod. Tho men’s committee comprised Messrs Collins, Walsh, Blunt, Batten, D’Atli and Bowd'en, who also assisted greatly to the success of the evening. Mr Bowden tvas the right man in the right place as M.C. There were no delays, and everything went like clockwork. The music supplied by ■Miss and Master Rikihana was of a high standard and added greatly to the enjoyment of the social. The Committee wishes', to thank Mesdames McGill, D’Ath, Walsh,-Field and Gordon for donations towards the supper, and Mr Jauncey for his services, which ■were much appreciated.
