THE BEACH CARNIVAL.

PKO&BAMME OF EVENTS. A meeting of the Carnival Committee was held during the week end, those present being Messrs Byron Brown (Chairman), .1. P. Brandon, W. H. Wills, 'A. J. Podevin. C. E. Cotterell, and E. M. Mosley (secretary). The first matter considered was a letter from Mr Ralph Smith, of Wellington, who said it was hoped to get at least five life-saving teams to enter for the competitions at the Otaki Carnival, and enclosed' a programme of events nnd would be suitable for the occasion. It wtis suggested that the competitions start about 2 p.m., and it weuld be advisable for someone to speak ou behalf of Otaki; setting out the object of the visit of The teams, ami the visitors would arrange for someone to say a few words om the work of the Royal Life-Saving Society. A class could also be put through to explain the methods of release,"rescue and resuscitation of the apparently drowned before the competitions commence so that the public would be able to follow tho work more closely. The programme suggested by Mr Smith was sis follows:

J. Marching Competition and parade for teams: First prize medical outfit value £2 10s, second medical outfit value £1 10s.

2. Land Drill Competition (teams of six men), drill as taught by the R.L.S.

A. and laid down in the Nelson Shield conditions: Prize, Perpetual Trophy value £0 and photo of winning team to each member of it. Entrance fee, 2s tid per team. o. Otaki Shield Surf Club Life-

Saving Competition, for teams of seven men and a captain: Winners to hold the shield for 12 months and each member of team to receive a medal of tin- value of £1 is. Entrance fee 10s till per team. Conditions as laid down in Nelson Shield water work. 1. Any further prize money to be allocated to beach events.

Mr Brown announced that he would withdraw his subscription of £lO and substitute a silver shield valued at twenty guineas, to be called the Otaki Shield, and to be competed for annually

at Otaki by life-saving teams. It was decided that all clubs he asked to bring their own reels, and that the judges be appointed by the Wellington Centre. Trophies an- to !„• offered as prizefor all events, the carnival to be held under the auspices of the "Royal Life Saving Society. A letter was read from Mr Reardon. of the Castlccliff life-saving club, and it was decided to write and inform him of uhat was being done and enclose a copy of the programme.
