FIRE IN OTAKI.

HOUSE COMPLETELY DESTROYED.

A fire occurred early yesterday morning by which a five-roomerl house situated in the vicinity of the Otaki bridge was destroyed. The building was oc- | cupied by Mr and Mrs R. B. Anderson and owned by tho Government. Mr Anderson was absent at the time, and Mrs Anderson'' after lighting the fire in the stove left to do the morning’s milking, the family, comprising seven children, being still in bed.* It is surmised that -sparks from the stove flow out and settled on a couch near by, for on returning towards the house, Mrs Anderson noticed smoke issuing from the kitchen. She rushed to the house and succeeded in getting the children out, and with assistance of a neighbour a few small articles of furniture were saved. The house was insured for £SOO and the furniture for £2OO.
