RIFLE SHOOTING.

FIELD SHIELD COMPETITION. r l The annual contest for the Field ■" Shield, between the Rille Clubs of tins (oast .took place on the Hautere little Club’s range on Saturday. The clubs competing were : Wliareroa, : Ngatiawa, Hautere, Levin and Fox- - ton, and the trophy was won by the Ngatiawa Club by the comfortable margin of II points, Levin (holders) being second, and Hautere third. This ts Ngatiawa’s second win, and tney 1 thoroughly deserved their victory, shooting much more consistently than my other club, and simply running 5 ’ away from the other teams at 300 and ’ ’ 300 yards. The position of the placed ■ teams at that stage was: Ngatiawa ] 185, Hautere 470, and Levin 454. At •’ the 600yds range the Levin team snot 1 much the best, gaining 19 points on 1 Ngatiawa and 35 on Hautere, and displacing the latter club from sec- ■ ond place. The day was brilliantly fine, with an easy wind, but the ' bright light proved very trying to the ’ older shots. 'She ladies ol the dis- ■ j trict provided a bountiful supply of refreshments, for which they were heartily cheered, and so ended a very , enjoyable day. The contest for ttie j Fresh Food Cup will be shot on tlie same rangit on the third Saturday m Marcii . Following are the results:— NGATIAWA RIFLE CLUB. 300 500 600—1! J.
