FEBRUARY MEETING. 1 ,The monthly meeting- oi the Horo whenua County Council was held on Saturday. Cf. G. A. Monk (chairman; presided, and others present were: Crs. A. R. Knox, S. A. Broadheit, C. I. The Levin Borough Council wrote stating that on the instigation of the Chamber at Commerce, it had decided to consider favourably erecting a signpost at die corner of the County ’and Beacli .Roads, Weraroa, for .the guidance oi traffic to Levin and Wellington (distances to be shown) -.n condition that, the County Council bore half of the expense. Cr. McLeavey asked what would, be . the cost. ' The Engineer said the amount ol ; printing proposed would cost a good deal. The chairman considered that in the. meantime at least die latter scheme j was the more desirable, and the En gineer was instructed to act accordingiy- j DRAINAGE AT CREAMERY. j The Levin Co-operative Dairy Company wrote regarding die state of die j drainage at their Heatherlea cream- j ery. The cause of die complaint .ia-.i j been removed, and it was hoped it j would not now be necessary to cany j out tiie recommendations of die ■ Health Officer in regard to the installing of a save well. S The chairman stated that that ap- | peared satisfactory, and no lumber action was necessary. CLEANING THE HOKIO. Cr. McLeavey reported that in company with die members of the Lake ' Domain Board and the Engineer, m had inspected the outlet to the Hokio stream. It was not so bad, and would take less expenditure to clean ou than was expected. The Lake Domain , Board was not in a position to do j anything to assist. The Lake was go- ■ ihg down rapidly owing to the dry - weather. The chairman: The Board wdl re j wanting the Council to raise the level next. I Cr. On the motion of Cr. Broadbell, 'he Engineer was authorised to expend up ' to £lO in clearing obstructions out oi ■ the Hokio stream so as to lower the , level of the lake. • MOTIONS. . J Cr. Broadbelt moved, ana it was } carried, that the Council cannot give ' exemption to portion of Piaka Roai remaining a 50-link road, and requests tliat the fence boundary be set- back the required .distance, 50 links, from

the centre of the road. On tire motion of Cr. Barber, it was decided that the 'necessary steps bo taken to raise a Jofin oi £9OO for the purpose ol reforming and metalling a portion of the Pretoria Road. Bryant, it was decided to purchase a 21h.p. portable engine to be set up and put in working order at the pit at Weraroa at a cost- ot £495.
