OTAKI'S CLEAN-UP WEEK
GOOD WORK DONE. Mr A. E. Wallington, sanitary inspector, last night reported to the Borough •Council that he had inspected nearly 300 places, end with the execption*of a dozen found all had .been cleaned up. Only once -was he asked to produce his authority, and, generally, was treated with the utmost civility. He suggested in future that rubbish bo gathered once weekly in summer and fortnightly in winter. .In tho centre of the town he found a disgraceful state of affairs, and also reported that Chinese shacks were unsatisfactory. . . The Mayor said no doubt Mr Wellington had made a thorough inspection, while it was evident that a cleanup was necessary. Cr. Broadway agreed with the May- j or that, tho report was a good one, and i just what was needed. He considered . Mr Wallington was entitled to a deal of credit for his report, and should be given every possible assistance in his duties.
