A NARROW ESCAPE.
T — . SMART RESCUE AT PAEKAKARIKI A smart piece of rescue work by the Paekakariki Life-saving Club was car-
ried out at Paekakariki on Sunday at about 11.30 a.m. A party of five persons—Afr C. J. King, of Otaki, at present relieving postmaster, Mr A. Young (also of the P. 0.), Air W. Kelly and his two sisters, Alisses E. and L. Kelly, of Waikanae, were bathing together about 50 yards north side of the lifesaving clubhouse. The committee of the Life-saving Club were holding a meeting inside the club-room when suddenly a call for help was heard from those iu the water. Immediately a reel of life line was picked up and ran to ’ the spot, a team of life-savers were soon in action, and landed all in safety within a few minutes, none the worse for their ducking, with the exception of Aliss E. Kelly. The lady was almost unconscious when the beltman reached her, but after a little resuscitation work was assisted home suffering from severe shock. All the party wore non-swimmefs, with the exception of Mr King, who had a severe task in assisting Miss L. Kelly ashore. The following members of the Life-saving Club carried out the rescue work. —Alessrs W. Griffiths, A .Stewart, AI. Bush, R. Jenkins, 11. Thomson, AI. Davis, and H. Sewell.
