A NARROW ESCAPE.

T — . SMART RESCUE AT PAEKAKARIKI A smart piece of rescue work by the Paekakariki Life-saving Club was car-

Kelly and his two sisters, Alisses E. and L. Kelly, of Waikanae, were bathing together about 50 yards north side of the lifesaving clubhouse. The committee of the Life-saving Club were holding a meeting inside the club-room when suddenly a call for help was heard from those iu the water. Immediately a reel of life line was picked up and ran to ’ the spot, a team of life-savers were soon in action, and landed all in safety within a few minutes, none the worse for their ducking, with the exception of Aliss E. Kelly. The lady was almost unconscious when the beltman reached her, but after a little resuscitation work was assisted home suffering from severe shock. All the party wore non-swimmefs, with the exception of Mr King, who had a severe task in assisting Miss L. Kelly ashore. The following members of the Life-saving Club carried out the rescue work. —Alessrs W. Griffiths, A .Stewart, AI. Bush, R. Jenkins, 11. Thomson, AI. Davis, and H. Sewell.
