A SERIOUS COLLISION.

TRAIN AND MOTOR-GAR. A motor-car ran into tho second express from the South at the Selwyn crossing (Christchurch) at 7 o’clock last night, resulting in injuries to one of tho three occupants, the total destruction of the car, and damage to the Governor-General’s private railway carriage. The occupants of the car wore T. A. Lackner, C. E. Johnston and Thyne (tho driver). Lackner received injuries to his back and hip, but?: the others escaped unhurt. The train was promptly pulled up, and Dr. Wilson, Superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, who was a passenger, attended tho injured- man. Subsequently he was placed aboard the train and conveyed to Christchurch, and thence to the hospital. The setting sun was against the motorists, and they did not sob the train till they were almost on the crossing. The car was slewed round in the same direction as the train was travelling, but the bonnet hit the post at the cattle stop, and the rear of the car was caught by the train and smashed against the fence of the cattle stop. The gas and electrical equipment, and step of the Vice-Regal carriage were torn off, also the woodwork and rear step of the next coach, containing Viscount Jellicoo’s staff. Tho Governor-General walked back to the scene of the accident and made enquiries as to the state of the injured man.
