Mr H. si. George, auctioneer, was seized with a serious illness at Levin on Tuesday, and was removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. Lister Donovan, who has been holiday making at Otuki, went to Welling;on yesterday, ttlicrc to outer St. Helens Hospital Lor further training, after which she will takoup the position ol district uurbe at Waikauac. A bright young life was cut. off on Monday, when the death took place of Master Sydney Galloway, aged I<> years, son of Mrs 11. Bird, of Bristol street, Levin (says the "Chronicle”). The deceased was ailing for a fortnight, and went to the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment tea days ago. Every hope was held out lor his recovery, but the illness took a turn which ended fatally. Uf a bright and cheerful disposition, the deceased, who was a carpenter's apprentice, was a particularly sumr! lad, and much . yin paths- will be felt !oi his mother in her severe loss. This morning the members of the, "Otaki Mail” staff gath crod 41 round tho stone” and made a vury handsome presentation to th eir employer (Mr Frank Perm), who is about to leave for Cambridge. Mr 11. Nieobon, who made the presentation oa behalf of the staff, -pioke of the friendly and happy relations that had always existed between Mr Penn and his employees. They, v ore all exceedingly orr.v that 1.0 was leaving Otaki, but wished him all possible prosperity, and trusted he and Mrs pgnu and iamiiy would have a happy, time m tue Waikato. Ihe presentation comprised a handsome ink stand and writing requisites, and a wallet. Messrs T. Collin- and (>. Caird also spoke. Mr Penn, in reply, heartily thanked the speakers jor their kind remarks and handsome presents and all the stall for their faithful services over a lengthy period. He said ho considered himself very lucky in having had such excellent and dependable servants, with whom he parted with vx-rj’ great regret. He trusted their relations with the new proprietor?, of the ‘-‘-Mail” would be happy and satisfactory in every way.
