VICTORIA COLLEGE PARTY. 1 LADIES’ EXCELLENT RECORD, j Yesterday at iroTJay a party reach- - ed the Otaki Forks, after crossing the Tarsruns from Wood.-nte. The party comprised three Judies and three men, viz., Professor Wilson. Mr J. Mjrprt (Government Entomologist.), Mr W, O, Britton, Itow Atnri Pope, Marjorio Myers and Anne Martin—all from .Victoria College, Wellington. Leaving Woodxide on Friday, the party walked to Tauherenikau Valley, where* the;/ camped for the tught. Early Saturday morning they were off again, but sooa encountered rain, and when they reached Mount. Alpha hut decided to stay there for the night. The wet weather continued, and the msrartaineers were detained at Alpha for two days. However, they enjoyed themselves. Yesterday the weather was glSrieux. The party was up bright and early, and started off at 4 turn. They made excellent time, and reached the Otaki Fork- about midday—a splendid record seeing that the party included three ladies. Afterward* they walked on to Otaki and returned to Wellington by train last evening. The ladies were the first to cross the Tararua* from the Wairarapa, the only other ladies who have made the crossing being Mi*-* Knox and Miss L//ait's Mack, who made a somewhat sensational crossing last summer, when thsy ! had fearful experiences. The Victoria College ladies acquitted themselves admirably. Not only did they come through without signs of distress, but • they carried their own swags.
