WOOL SALES.
FIRST WELLINGTON SALE SINCE 1915. PRICES BETTER THAN ANTICIPATED. Eight catalogues, aggregating some 4300 bales, were submitted at the Town Hall on Monday at the first wool sale held in Wellington since 1915. The brokers offering lots were Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., Murray-, Roberts and Co., Dalgety and Co., Wright, Stephenson and Co.. N.Z. Farmers’ Distributing Co.. Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-op. Co., Abraham and Williams, Ltd., N.Z. Loan and Mercantile; and the combined catalogues were fairly representative of North Island wools. On the whole, coarse and low-grado wools were neglected, but good 46’s and upwards sold, all things considered, at very good prices, to within 40 per cent of the commandeer prices. There was a good turn-out of buyers, the benches being full; but there were no French nor Continental men present. Those in attendance were principally Bradford men, American buyers, and representatives of loeal ™;n c and other New Zealand interests. In the gallery a considerable number of wool-growers keenly followed the nrogress of the sale. The following was the range of prices:— Southdown, lljd to 13d; halfbred super, 12d to 13sd; halfbred medium, 9d to ll|d: halfbred inferior, 7d to Sid; crossbred super, lOd to lid; crossbred fine, 8d to 10jd; crossbred medius, old to "id; crossbred coarse, 3«d to sd; crossbred inferior and seedy, 3d to 4d; crossbred piecea and bellies, 3d to 4a; halfbred pieces and bellies, 4a to 6?d; locks. Id to 2d; crutchings, 3)d to 4d; crutehiag3 seedy, 2d to 2|d.
