IN A GENEROUS MOOD.

COUNCILLORS VOTL THEM- " ; SBLVKS BETTER PAY. At Saturday's meeting of the Horowhenua County Council, Cr. Broadbelt considered councillors should be better paid for duties rendeiud to the couuty, and moved thai £1 instead of JOs per meeting be granted in luture. Crs, Darkness, Ryder and McLcavey spoke in support, the latter stating lie had moved in this direction years ago. Cr. Ryder considered a rise justified ami stated that i> would be an inducement for a working man to take office. In his opinion even £1 per day would not compensate a man for time lost. The only thing he did not like about it was because "it was too much like raising their own screw." The motion was unanimously carried, travelling allowance at sixpence per mile, one way only, to be added.
