MANAWATU LICENSING BENCH.

At the last meeting of the Licensing Bench at Foxton the police applied to have the license of the Manaw&m Hotel (Foxton) forfeited on the ground that a breach of the Licensing Act had been committed, in that the licensee had permitted an unlicensed person to be in effect the keeper of the house. Tho Bench adjourned the appli cation for forfeiture of the license, until the next quarterly meeting, so as to allow the hotel to be sold.

The police also objected to tho man ner in which the Family Hotel (Fox ton) had been conducted, aud asket that the licensee be warned. Mel

were frequently on the premises after hours, and when the constable appeared on the scene there were general stampedes. The Bench stated that unless hotels were better conducted fewer licenses would be granted at the annual meeting.
