METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.
ANNIVERSARY SOCIAL. There was a splendid attendance, both of adults and children, at the anniversary social in connection with tho Otaki Methodist Sunday-school, held last night. The following programme was gone through most successfully ;—Anniversary hymn, children; recitation. Tommy Irving; pianoforte solo, Janet Smith; recitation, Esina Cornish; song, Mona Blair; song, girls; recitation, Chrissie Olliver; pianoforte solo, Keitha Synnott; song. Rose . Chandler; recitation, Elsie Malhic; cornet solo. Bob Fielding; song, Doris Olliver; recitation, Myrtle Smith; pianoforte solo. Marjorie Penn; recitation, Peggy Hall; song, Janet Smith; hymn, children; recitation, Rose Chandler; song, six girls; recitation, Neil Synnott; hymn, children. The items reflected credit alike alike on the children and those who had trained them. Mr 11. Cockrell (superintendent of the school) presented the annual report, in which it Was stated that there were some forty odd children on tho roll. During the year the Otaki Kaili way school hud been closed down, owing to no building being available for the meetings. The selioolwork had been somewhat hampered by shortage of teachers, and even now there was a vacancy for one teacher, but the work of tlie school was proceeding satisfactorily. Mr Cockrell appealed to parents to assist the children in their schoolwork, and not to leave the whole of the training of their children to the Sunday-school teachers. .Air Cockrell also thanked the children for their attention and zeal in their work dur-
ing the year. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of several pounds in hand.
The Rev. AV. G. Slade, M.A.. who acted as chairman, made a few appro printe remarks, stressing the importance of the work of the Sunday-school, and asking for the hearty co-operation of the parents. He also heartily thanked the children for their excellent items, and al! who luid assisted with that evening’s function. The prizes were then distributed by tin? superintendent and Mrs Blade as under:- — Infants: Puttie Olliver 1. Grace Olliver 2, Myrtle Smith 3, Mary Morris 1. Intermediate Girls: Janet Smith 1, Marjorie Penn 2, Chrissie Olliver 3, Dorothy Smith 4. Junior Girls: Betty Olliver 1, Doris Olliver 2, Lucy Burden 3. Seniors: Percy Cornish 1, Dorothy Cornish 2. lsla MatliiC 3. Otaki Railway Classes. Third Class: Mclvyn Kemptou 1, K. Walts 2. S. AY aft s 3. Second Class: F. Kemptou 1, Doris Watts 2. First Class: . Esraa. Cornish 1, lan Thomson 2. Beautiful cards were given to the little children. Supper was served and brought to a close one of the most, successful function- of tie hind held in Otaki.
