DAIRY WORKERS.
In his notes to the "Taranaki Herald" the Stratford correspondent savs: The newly-formed union of dairy factory workers has lost no time in formulating its demand- for increased wages and other concessions from employers. The schedule provides for the unskilled worker a minimum wage of £4 -"is for six days, with perquisites and allowance.- worth at the lowest computation another pound. His remuneration will, therefore, it" the demands are granted, amount to pretty* well a- much as a clergyman, school teacher, or accountant .may hope to receive after much hard study and passing of examinations. It is a somewhat unfortunate thing for the factory workers that they are asking for increased wr»ge: just at the time when from one cause cr another their employers arcbeginning to doubt the long duration of the phenomenally high prices of produce. There are -undeniable indications that the market for cheese, if not for butter, is by no means likely to be as firm a: could be wished. In fact, it i= pretty evident that price, of all commodities have, reached the peak, and are started on the down rrrade It is to be hoped that it will be a glide and not a crash
