H*— FAREWELL SOCIAL. A farewell social was tendered to ! Air Murray Wilson at Paekakariki on Wednesday last, when there, were a large number of folks present. Air Wilson, who has been in the district for some considerable time, lias been transferred from the Wellington l branch of Alessrs Sargood, Sun and ! Ewan to till an important position j with the branch at Invercargill. For , some time he has been secretary to the i Paekakariki Tennis Club, also a pro--1 minent footballer in the “Paekak” | team. During the evening Air J. j Smith, president of the Tennis Club, i presentejf Air Wilson with a tennis j racquet on bdlyilf of the residents, and i in the course, of his remarks stated I that although they very much regretted to lose Air Wilson, lie was pleased to know he was leaving them to letter himself by having received promotion, and wishing him every success in his new sphere. During last, football season Afr W. W. Smith presented the Football Club with a gold medal, suitably inscribed, to be awarded the best improved player. Air Wilson was chosen, and Air J. Smith, on behalf of the club, presented him with the modal, at the same time expressing a hope that he; would become a New Zealand representative in the near future. Air Smith also said that, much of the success of the Tennis Club was due to Air Wilson’s work, lie having successfully negotiated for the land on which the court now stands. Air Wilson, in thanking the residents for their kindness, said he much regretted leaving them, and hoped some day to return. He fully appreciated all that hail bec-n done and said. NOTES. It is the intention of the Tennis Club to put down two more courts and also ti croquet, lawn on their receutly purchased property. Afr F. Iloltom's line, large motor garage is still incomplete, due to want of cement. A social in aid of funds for the starving children in Europe is to be held at Paekakariki on Wednesday, j The object is a deserving one, and a -. large attendance is expected. A concert and dance wlil be held next month in aid of the building fund of the Catholic Church. The management is in good hands, and it is expected tickets will sell like hot cakes.
