WAIKANAE.

BAND CONCERT. a Last night a concert was given at the Waikanae Hall, in aid of the Otaki Brass Band. The bandsmen went down to Waikanae early in the evening, and played a number of selections in the open-air, the music being much appreciated. There was a good ati.cndance at the concert, which was an excellent one, and the whole function was a great success in every way. The programme opened with a line selection by the band, followed by a. song by Mr W. Simpson, “Floral Dance.” Afterwards Mr Simpson gave a humorous Scotch song, which delighted the audience, who demanded a. reappearance. Mrs Cooze (a visitor t.o Otaki) scored a great success with her Mjug, “Dear Little Boy of Mine,” and was encored, while Mr Stable was in particularly good form, and both his songs, “Didst Thou But Know” and “Mignon,” were very line efforts, deservedly encored. Miss Kilsby proved a great favourite, both her songs, “Believe Me” and “Wake Up,” being recalled, while Miss Fielding had to reappear for her pleasing rendition of “The Beautiful Land of Nod.” Master K. Fielding’s cornet solo was capitally given and well received. The comic element was supplied by Mr Jacob Utiku, who, of course, had to reappear several times for his comic songs, while his duet with Mr H. Hapcta also called forth a double encore. Mr Frank Penn gave ■t musical monologue. The band supplied two further selections in good style. The audience was evidently well pleased with the capital programme submitted. Mrs Stable supplied the greater part, of the accompaniments with her usual good taste. At the close ot the programme, Mr H. Witchell,. who ably officiated as chairman, heartily thanked the performers who had assisted, and also all who were present. Mr Witchell said the band wgs in need of funds for the purchase of uniforms, etc., and would be glad to enrol honorary members at 10s each. He could assure them that the band would be only too pleased to assist with any good object in any part, of the district. It was not an Otaki band really, but a district band. Afterwards the hall was cleared, .and a dance was held, also in aid of the band funds.

The band officials wish to specially thank Mr and Mrs Thomson, of Mahara House, for so kindly providing refreshments for the bandsmen end concert performers gratis.
