Constable Satherley. acting on medical advice, left for Wellington on Saturday to consult a specialist. Messrs F. H. Bakcwcll and A. B. Charters; inspectors, arc paying an official visit to the district schools this week. They visited Otaki on Friday and to-day. It is stated on what is considered to be good authority that Sir James Carroll will be called to fill a vacancy in the Legislative Council. Mr \V. J. Howell, acting on medical advice, has decided to take no further part in local b'odv matters for the time, being. Mr and Mrs F. Coley, who have been the of Mr and Mrs IV. Dodds, leave for Levin to-day, after which they will journey to Wellington ami i sail for Australia on the 2Slh. Arclidcason Innes-Joucs, who has been for the past 27 years in charge of Feilding parochial district, has been appointed to lioseneath (Wellington) i and will be succeeded by Rev. F. 11. Petrie, brother to Rev. 0. F. Petrie, of Otaki. The exchange will be made early in the new year. At the opening of the Bowling an ! Tennis Clubs at Shauuuu on Wednesday reference was made to the death of Mr P. Hennessy. and Mr Murray, president of the Bowling Club, asked that the Foxton and local clubs should pass a motion of condolence with tinrelatives of the deceased gentleman. Mr J. T. Bovis, president ol' the Lawn Tennis Club, al-o expressed the sympathy of his club with the late Mr . Hennessy’s relatives. Mr F. G. Davies, C.L., has been appointed engineer-clerk to the Otaki Town Board in place of Mr M. ft. Ayre, who has resigned for business reasons. For the past six years Mi Davies has been engineer to the Pat'- i Borough Council, which gave him full control of all works, including sire*-' formation, water and drainage work as well as the management of the elec 1 trieal undertaking. During his tern of office the whole of the main street ' of Paten have been tailed, and at piv sent Mr Davies i.- finishing a £titM‘ 1 loan works in connection with tin alteration and extension ot the wal- ' * and drainage systems.
