DEPLORABLE ROADS.
A visitor to Xew Zealand, who habeen touring the Xorth Island iti i. molor car, stated that lie never imagined that the Dominion enpittl was in such a deplorable condition in regard to road access: It was a pleasure, he said, to travel in the Taranaki district, while the roads withi-i the vicinity of Wellington were u disgrace to civilisation. From Uppi r iiuit to the city there was a series of holes that reminded him of the shellholes on the French roads. The road at tiie far end of I’etonc was in an atrocious condition, ns was the one running round Iho foreshore towatds llie entrance to the harbour. He ventuied to say that no other com munit.v in the world would put up with similar conditions.
