BACK TO WORK.
WATERFRONT DEADLOCK ENDED. A COMPROMISE EFFECTED. Alter lasting for exactly one wee!, the deadlock on the waterfront ha been settled, and work was resume yesterday afternoon (says th* “Post”). The settlement is the re of a compromise arranged on Sub day between the representatives oi the employers and the executive, tithe Waterside Workers ’ Union. Th* compromise provided that the employ eis should call for labour for six boatsimultaneously, including the Calm The compromise was placed be for the usual monthly meeting of tin union yesterday, and was endorsed with the addition that there should bno victimisation of men who took ; prominent, part on the men ? s side This was at once agreed to by the cm ployers. Work was commenced at th wharves at 1 p.m. yesterday. Thor was a demonstration of satisfaction o* the part of many of the wntersiders With ihe accumulation of shipping tb< labour offering was not sufficient, bn in a couple of days' time the work o the port should be in full swing.
