AMUSEMENTS.

THE LYRIC COSTUME COMEDY COMPANY TO-NIGHT.

Arrangements are well in hand for the opening of the Lyric Costume Comedy Company* to-night, aud judging by indications at tiic box offieo there should be a crowded audience to greet this talented coterie, who, by the way, were an illuminating factor in the drawing power of the recent Chautauqua party. Messrs A. H. Ripley (first tenor), Herbert Richards (second tenor), Alan McElwain (first bass), and J. W. Ryan (second bass) form the personnel, and unaccompanied part singing is their special metier. In this particular line of vocal entertainment. they stand unrivalled. NothI ing could be finer than their liurmoui ing, whether it be in simple rhymes and lullabies, or in sentimental and pathetic ballads. They have worked together so long now that their voices and minds sc-em in perfect accord, and the effect on the audience is electrical, encore after cncoro being the penalty wherever they have appeared. Excelling in ensemble work, each, however, supplies his own quota to the general success, aud makes good with his respective offering. Miss Jessie Bartlett, one of the supporting artists, has au attractive stage presence and sings with rare taste and musical intelligence, wliile Ihe pianist, Miss Evelyn Harvey, is an able musician, and Miss Doreen MeClutchy solo dauseuse. A musical treat, par excellence, is in store for patrons. “HEART OF THE SUNSET.” The above picture, to be shown to- , morrow night, should be a most pleas- j ing one. The synopsis is as follows. - I Alairo- (Anna U. Nilsson) is married •to Ed. Austin (Robert Taber), a disso- j lute ranch owner, and aside irom eating meals with him and receiving letters at the same address has nothing in common with her husband. A chance meet ing with Dave Law (Ilcr bert Hcves), of the Texas Rangers, precipitates a love allair which, however, is strictly honourable, as Alaire adheres faithfully to her marriage vows. Longorio (E. L. Fernandez), a military leader of Mexico, covets Alaire,' and under the pretence of honourable friendship often visits her. Longoria threatens one of his henchmen with torture unless he kills Austin. and so Alaire is eventually ren dcred a widow. The Mexican leader then traps Alaire in his native land, and attempts to force her to marry him. He is c-alled away for a while, and. during the interim. Law arrives and marries Alaire. On his return Longorio makes Law captive and plans his death. The priest, however, prevails upon the outlaw to reform, long enough to permit ihe escape oi Alaire and Law. Relenting Ills goodness he sends his troops after them. Thev are trapped in a lone hut, which is set afire, but the Texas Rangers effect a last minute rescue.

On Saturday the star will bn “American Buds,” 1o be suppoited bv a first-class comedy, an educational film, a cartoon, and a gazette. NEURALGIA.
