AMENDED CHARGES. The Hon. J. C. Coates, Postmaster General, promised in the House, of Rcprcsontatives recently to reconsider the question of the proposed new telephone rates, ami as a result the following further amendments in the scale ot telephone charges. which takes oiYc'-r on and from to-day. were nnnoin."' : on Wednesday. Ch ri.-tchurels, and Dunedin, the minimun? rate for business subscribers will be 10s per annum. A few examples of the effect of the reduction are as follow:—Private residence subscribers distant three miles from the exchange now charged £l2 per annum will be re quired to pay only £JL Those distant five miles get a redaction of £2 per annum. A business’ subscriber whose premises are distant, three miles from the exchange will get a reduction of £1 per annum, and so oil The distance over which half-rate connections may be made, namely 25 miles, which wain force prior to the recent amendment, has been reverted to.
