OTAKI CROQUET CLUB.
ANNUAL DANCE. The annual dance in connection with the Otaki Croquet Club was held in Brights’ Theatre on Wednesday night, when the attendance was large, including a number of visitors from outlying districts. The hall was prettily decorated with bunting, while the stage was set apart, for non-dancers. However, the latter were conspicuous by their absence, the cold evening evidently causing all to make the best use of the polished floor. Many of the dresses were greatly admired, but fancy costumes were few and far be tween—only half a dozen or so being in evidence. The lovely dresses, brilliant lights, and bunting combined made a pleasing effect, and the scene was an animated and brilliant one. The music by the orchestra —Miss Cook (violin), Miss Rikihana (piano), Messrs Hudficld Knocks ( ’cello), tied Whata Hnkaraia (cornet) —was iirstdass, while. Mr G. Noble, assisted by Mr A. Bills, made a line M.C. The supper arrangements thanks to the energetic efforts of R. Bills ecret.ary) and her assistants—were complete, and the appetising spread was fully appreciated. The ladies who were responsible for the succesof the affair are deserving of heart ie-i congratulations, and it was pleasing to know- that their efforts were crowned with success. Already the Ib2o function is being looked forward to.
