MI. HECTOR TRACK COMMITTEE. * A meeting of members of the Mount Hector Track Committee was held at Otaki last evening. Present: Messi> G. M. Lethbridge, D. Corrigan, A. K. Knox, H. and W. Jepsou, M. H. Avre. ! *). J\ Branduji, Harold Cockrell, and H. Nicolson (bon. secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. Small and F. Penn. Owing to the resignation of Mr W. • 'fompsitt (who had left the district) as chairman, -Mr Brandon was unanimously elected to the position. The minutes of the previous meet big were read and confirmed, and the :e port (already published) adopted. To* treasurer reported a small credit balance in hand. The P.W. Department * wrote setting out details of the improvements it had decided to make on the track from Grey town to Otaki. The amount to be allotted was £IMO. made up as follow*: —Krection of bosun chair across tb»* Tauherenikau river, £100; addition to Alpha hot, £120; hut at Mount Hector, £220; hut at Table 1 Top. £Jo0; improvement of track from Alpha to the Beehives, £2O; deviation around Beehive** . to Hector. £-S0; grading, clearing and forming track from Hector to Otaki Forks. £3OO. It way also stated that the Tourist Department: had an item 4 of £IOO available for the hut at Tab!* - * * Top and the P.W, De.partrnent understood that the Track Committee was able to give £IOO towards general improvements. It was hoped to commence the work of improvement early next summer. It was decided to write to the Department and endeavour to hasten the work, and that the Gorge members of the committee be appointed to meet the working party with a view to Laving the work done as effectively as possible. The naming of the proposed hois, together with those on this side of the range, was discussed, and it was decided to write to the Tramping Club '• < Wellington) Muting that the- committee reserved the right of naming such hats, and to suggest that the naming of hats on the Wairarapa side be left to the Grey town Committee. •It wa» generally agreed that the Tramping Club could suggest name- if it so desired. It was unanimously decided that the name “Alt. Hector Track Committee” be altered to ‘‘The Tararua Track Committee,” this being considered more comprehensive. It was decided that the Membership fee be 2s fid. If m* reported that it was probable -that photographs of the mountain “eencry would shortly be taken ;usj filmed. It was thought by so doing io further advertise the track and the attractions of the district in general.
