The trips are being | done chiefly for Mrs Coley's health. There is a considerable amount of sickness in this district at present. Among those who are laid aside with illness are Mesdames .1. Atkins and .T. Staples aud Miss Bramley, all of Manakau, and Miss Miles, school teacher at Ohau. Mr T. B. Bax, of 1 Otaki. is still seriously ill. At last Thursday's meeting of tho Palmerston North Hospital Board Drs. Burnett. Beti, Miller and Wills were appointed to till vacancies on the hos■pital's honorary staff. with Dr. Whifaker as honorary opthalrnic surgeon. Dr. .!. X. Wuddell, of 'iimt.ru. was appointed house surgeon. Mr W. F. Kits-ling, of Waihoanga, is mentioned as a probable candidate for Cr. Coley's seat at the coming County election. During Mr Coley's i term of office he has worthily filled the position, and while he has* attended to the want- of the Gorge has had the interests of the county generally at heart. His retirement as a member of the Horowhenua Council will be mnih regrElted.
