As M. Venizelos, was leaving Paris for Nice he was shot and slightly wounded at the Gate de Lyon. His two assailants were arrested. A man named lSlotuquist ran amok at Otaki Railway this afternoon, and is alleged to have caused a commotion by his violent language aud behaviour. Ho will be charged with the offence tomorrow morning. A boy who had escaped from the Weraroa Trailing Farm appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Juvenile Court Palmerston North, on Saturday morning, charged with stealing goods valued at £7 10s from a store at Waikanae. and a bicycle valued at £7. Accused was found guilty and recommitted to the training farm, most of tho goods having been recovered. Boots aud shoes tire now a very expensive item. It is seldom that sales in these lines are held, but Messrs Pearcc and Co., the well-known city boot firm, are now holding their halfyearly sale and offering a great many lines at specially reduced prices.
