COUNTRY RACING CLUBS* DISCUSSION. The industrial unrest that has bocn sweeping like a tidal wave throughout the world has even reached the ! jockeys' calling, and a union has been formed, stated the annual report of the executive which was presented to last night's conference of the Country Racing Club's Association. "The combination has tried to dictate to the racing clubs and force their" willright or wrong—on tbc .dubs, even going to the extent of striking and inducing the waterside workers and Itramway and sailors' unions to join with them. It is needless for the committee to point out that it will be the death-knell of (ho sport of racing should the jockeys become the dictators as to how the sport, is to be conducted. The jockeys are taking their stand on the industrial laws of the Dominion, and can only make their employers a party to any recognition or award. The clubs iu no way employ them to ride, but provide for the jockeys to earn a living. Clubs are •managed by sportsmen who not only devote a deal of their time and energies in providing racing events, but also pay for the privilege. Without racing clubs the jockeys' occupation would be gone." The Weraroa stables are beginning to aasumo a busier appearance than has been the case for some time past, and as Trainer Oxenham is expecting further additions to his string in tho . near future, it is possible that the j Weraroa stables will soon regain the I popularity enjoyed when in charge of j Fred Carmont. I Oxenham took Idleness and Pare- ; wanuj to the recent Napier meeting, j and although neither got in the money they performed well in the very heavy Idleness has improved out of sight since joining the Weraroa stable, and the smart little Bczonian marc should be worth watching at the Wellington meeting. Parewanui was given a run in the steeples at the Otaki meeting last month, but he was short of work and was turned out in very rough condition. Oxenham has got him looking like a racehorse again, and is showing much of his old form in his work. Mr P. Weino's Arch Lassie is a recent addition to the stable. The Marble Arch mare was turned out after the Otaki meeting for a spell, and will not be brought in for another five or six weeks. She is in good condition for commencing a preparation for the spring racing. A new arrival is expected at the stables next week in the shape of a three-year-old colt by Autumnus. The youngster is reported to be smart on his pins, and a promising career is expected for hint. That smart sprinter, Ahika. is in the hands of the Levin trainer, A. McConnon. It is probable that several horses from this district will make the journey to the West Coast for the racing circuit there at Christmas. Camp Hero, which was in work on . the Levin track for tome time, and started successfully at Otaki. has been returned to his owner at Shannon. Mr McKegg's gelding Utuwai ran promisingly at the recent Napier meeting, and was unlucky in not getting among the place-getter-. The son of San Fran is still in charge of Fred Carmont.
