METHODIST CHURCH.

QUARTERLY CIRCUIT MEETING. The quarterly meeting of officials of the Otaki Methodist Circuit was held at the Waikanae. Church last night, when there were present: Rev. W. G. Sladc, M.A. (presiding), Rev. C. 11. Earwaker, Messrs- F. Cordukcs, W. 11. Potts, E. Clarke (Paraparaumu), H. Heller, A. W. Roberts, R. Hooper (Waikanae), G. W. Kirk (Te Horo), H. Cockrell and Frank Pcuu (Otaki). The membership roll, presented by the chairman, showed a reduced Membership, as a result of a careful purging during the quarter. A discussion ensued re the importance of church membership, and the necessity of keeping in closer touch with members, especially those just entering or leaving a district. The balance-sheet showed a considerable deficit, owiug largely to the purchase of a gig, harness, etc., at a cost of nearly ±'lo. The bad weather had also effected the contributions, several services being missed altogether in certain centres. The Sunday-school reports were of a fairly satisfactory nature. It was resolved to make the annuai effort for the H.M. fund during the quarter, and the chairman was asked to make arrangements for H.M. deputation to conduct special services ami also week-night meetings throughout the circuit. It was reported that lie circuit was assessed to raise £3S fui the fund. Mr G. W. Kirk (missionary agent) reported that the sum of £l6 13s 0«1 had been collected during the quarter for Foreign Missions, and £7 "Js (id for Borne Missions. It was resolved that, owing to the difficulty in securing board and lodg jugs; at Paraparaumu, the Homo Mission agent reside at Otaki. A lengthy discussion ensued as to the best means of enabling the ministers to carry out their pastoral work, and a sub-commit toe was set up to make enquiries as to the cost of a motor car, cost of upkeep of same, etc., to report to next quarterly meeting. Permission was given to the Otaki parsonage trustees to purchase a section of land adjoining the parsonage, for grazing purposes. ft was resolved that next meeting be held at Otaki ou October oth, at 1.30 p.m. «*
