FARMERS’ SHIPPING SERVICE.
STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO SECURE SHIPS. At the Dairy Association Conference at Palmerston North on Wednesday, a lengthv discussion ensued with respect to the shipping of farm produce, etc., and the suggestion that farmers take steps in the direction of securing their own shipping service. After much discussion, in which practically every speaker strongly favoured the proposed scheme, Ihe following resolution was carried unanimously:— “That this meeting is of opinion that the time "has arrived when the Dominion producers should, along with our Government, have a controlling interest in u tleet for the carriage of our produce; and that it be a recommendation to the executive of the North Island Dairy Association to co-operate with the South Island Dairy Asociation; also the wool, meat, and other producers; to approach the Government with a view to getting financial assistance or backing, and to devise a scheme to provide funds for the purpose of obtaining an assured and reliable shipping service, at reasonable rates of freight, and establishing an independent shipping line il such becomes necessary.’’
