PRICE OF BUTTER.
MAY BE 2s 3d. New Plymouth, June 18. In commenting upon a message from London, stating that the Imperial Government was prepared to negotiate for the exportable surplus of .butter fro.rp New Zealand until -March 31st, IOL'I. similar to previous contracts. Mr Morton, chairman of the National Hairy Association, stated to a "Daily News" reporter to-night that he interpreted the message :■- an indication that the British Government intended to continue the commandeer until the date mentioned. "Previously." added Mr Morton, ''the Food Mini-try w&; divided in opinion as to whether <\- sot they should continue the eorurol or to decontrol the price of butter, and it now appeared that they had reached the decision not to decontrol prices. Mr Morton anticipated that New Zealand butter would be sold for 3s in England, and £s 3d per lb would be netted to dairy factories. Regarding the local market. Mr Morton said Mr Mac-sey Lad given an assurance that producer; v.vula receive a price equal to the export value of their produce, which, in this case, would be about -'- 3d.
