ALICE PARKINSON.
CASE TO BE REVIEWED. LEGISLATION TO BE INTRODUCED. The case of Alice Parkinson, who. some five years ago. was sentenced io life imprisonment lor manslaughter at Napier, has again been receiving the consideration "of the Government. From time to time numerou? petitions ami resolutions have been presented by the Government asking for the circumstances of the- prisoner's ease to be considered with a view to her release being gianted. The Minister for Justice, the Hon. F. P. Lee, stated to a "New Zealand Times" reporter yesterday that Cabinet had decided upon the introduction of legislation which would allow of Alice Parkinson's case, and similar cases, to be placed under the jurisdiction of the Prisons Board. Should Parliament pass the legislation proposed. it would'enable the eases to be considered by the Prisons Board, which will have power to make a recommendation to his Excellency the GoyernsrGeneral for the release upon probation of the prisoner.- situated as Alice Paris, if the boaTd deems such action advisable.
