MANAKAU.
PEACE MEMORIAL. A meeting of the executive committee in. connection with the Manakau Peace Memorial was held on Monday 'night to settlo matters in connection with the recent effort in aid of the funds. Mr L. Atkius prcsidcit. Mr Duncum sent an apology for absence from the meeting. Mr C. Nees (secretary and treasurer) ' reported that the effort had brought in. a sum of between £OO and £7O. The exact amount was not certain, as some 1 returns were not yet in. The whole of j the expenses in connection with the function amounted to only £3 15s. | Various matters of detail in conneciton with the memorial were discussed. Mr Howard Andrew heartily thanked tho collectors and other workers in connection with last week 's special offort, for their splendid work. PATRIOTIC MATTERS. societies throughout the district were now closing down. Ho also stated that the County Association would only meet every three months, instead of monthly as in the past; but said it was very necessary for each district to be represented on the Association by men who could see to the wants of local men and dependants.
The meeting decided to cease operations, and fo hand over its balanei in hand (approximately £27) to tho County Association. The meeting decided to make enquiries re a Manakau soldier v.ho was still in hospital, it being desired to assist him further before tlic funds were handed over to the Association. On tho motion of Air Les. Atkins, a hearty vo'.o of thanks was accojried Messrs Audrew and (.'. Nees, who had acted as chairman and secretary of ii: : Manakau Society for such a lengthy period, and in such an efficient mnnnr-r. Mr Atkins said the people of the dis trict owed a debt of deep gratitude to such men as these for their patriotic efforts.
Mr Andrew, in replying, paid n ■■■ : - bute to the splendid work rendered by Mr Noes, and by the committee, who had always assisted him readily and well. Messrs Andew and Nees were reelected delegates to represent Manakau on tho Patriotic Association. PRESENTATION. A very pleasant little function took placo at the vestry of tho Manakau Mothodist Church on Monday afternoon, at a gathering of the members of tho Ladies' Guild. Mrs Andrew, on behalf of the members, presented MisCsraeron. on the eve of her marriage, with a set of silver teaspoons. .Mrs Andrew referred fo Miss Cameron '.- activity as a useful member of ' ieGuild, and wished her all success and happiness. Miss Cameron, who w:n completely taken by surprise, suitably replied.
