THE PRINCE'S VISIT.
OTAKI STOP CUT OUT. EEAKBANGEMENT OWING TO STRIKE. Owing to the strike, a rearrangement of the programme for the Princo of Wales' reception has hid to be adopted, and in fho new programme it it has been found necessary to cancel the stoppage at Otaki. The Chairman of the Otaki Town Board last night received the following telegram from the Hon. W. Fraser:—
Owiifg to the unfortunate railway strike (the programme arranged for Hi 3 Koyal /Highness through the North Island lias had to bo altered, and as the Prince under the amended programme will now require to travel from Woodvilla to Wellington via the Wairarapa line, it will not be possible to pass through Otaki under these ' circumstances. The proposed reception at Obaki cannot be held, but as previously adivised the Otaki bchoul children will bsS carried lo Wellington for the children's demonstration there, which will now be held on Friday next, and the General Manager of Railways will endeavour to make arrangements to carry" the residents also to Wellington to enable (hem to see the Prince. I fcal sure that in view of the fact that the Prince has cuncelled his deerstalking trip to the Wairarapa in order to meet as many of tho people and the school children in the IVorth Island as possible, yourself and the members of your Town Board as well as the residents of Otakj will fully appreciate the position and make tho best of the means available to use of mooting your wishes. Iu regard to your town address, if desired this can be presented by you iu Wellington on Thursday nc.\t nt the same time as the presentation of other civic addresses. I shall be glud to learn your decision iu regard to the address.
MUCH DISAPPOINTMENT EXPRESSED.
Tho news of the cancellation of th* Otakj stop has caused very much disappointment, more especially by, and on behalf of, the children, who have been eagerly looking forward for weeks (past to the Otaki function. The unfortunate part is that the younger children—and the children below the third standard form slightly more than half our school children—will now lie unable to see their future King—a fa:t. much to be deplored. The local arrangements, which were complete, have meant, tlm expenditure of considerabl* money and a great deal of time nad trouble, but this, of course, cannot b» helped, and the public will have to b«er thi- disappointment as well as th*y
Mr W. H. Field, our member, has made urgent representations "to th» Minister in charge of thy arraflgtincuts, urging that >-ve-ri now the OUlti top be arranged for if at. all poi;ib!e, hut it seem.-, uniikf !y that this can ba arranged now.
TUB CHILDREN'S UTJTINO. The Otaki, Te liuro and other rchoo! ■ hildren will travel to Wellington sa ; : iday morning. The school children from Manakaa. Ohau, Levin and northern contrcs wdl journey to I'almcraton .North to-iuor-tow (Tui: day) morning by aptteial train, leaving .Macnkau at 7.00 a.m. The Otaki public aro invited by advertisement to observe Friday nest aa a public holiday, v.hile Manakau will obscrva a holiday to morrow.
