RIFLE SHOOTING.
HAUTERE RIFLE CLUB’S FIELD DAY. What might'be termed a milestone marking the prosperity of the club would probably be the best way to describe the splendid outing provided by the management of the Hautere Defence Rifle Club for their initial annual meeting held on Easter Monday list.
Seeing the club has only two targets and the number of-competitors was 37 with live ranges to fire over, things must have been in perfect order to get tiie shooting done. Such was in fact the case, and arrangements were cari icd out without the suspicion of a hitch. Great credit is therefore due to all the officers and a word of praise is duo to Mr S. Norgrove, who acted as secretary for the day. The handicapping done by Messrs Thomson and Maekcrsey worked oat 'with almost weird precision, leading one to susreet them of being gifted with second sight. A feature of the meeting was the shooting of the colts, j and the fond parents of these boys . were thrilled again and again as the j disc was employed iu signalling bulls’- j eves. Again one would hear the to- | mark, “Only wind beat him.” as a I lesser number of points was marked. ( I lie parents and sisters turned out on masse, ami one has to partake of To i Horn's hospitality to fully realise the j toothsome dainties provided. The sue- j cess of the meeting would never huve been attained without the generous support of the ladies and gentlemen , who contributed funds and trophies, j and these are gratefully acknowledged. 1
